At John Paul Construction we believe every project is an opportunity to improve on what’s gone before. To foster that mindset, we hire the brightest and best in the industry, encourage a collaborative approach, and embrace innovative thinking and new technology.
Due to continued expansion, we require a Group Head of MEP Commissioning to Cover all and provide Leadership across our portfolio of projects.
This role is key to ensuring building services perform as intended — safely, efficiently, and in line with design and compliance requirements. You’ll lead a team of engineers and specialists, work closely with contractors and clients, and play a central role in delivering technically sound and fully operational systems on every project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the Team: Managing a skilled team of MEP commissioning engineers, providing direction, support, and technical oversight throughout each stage of the commissioning process.
- Setting Strategy: Developing a consistent, practical approach to commissioning across the business – including creating a company-wide commissioning playbook.
- Technical Assurance: Reviewing designs, inspecting works on site, and ensuring systems are tested and performing to specification. Starting with the end in mind.
- Programme and Budget Control: Overseeing commissioning schedules, allocating resources effectively, and keeping activities on time and within budget.
- Collaborating Across the Board: Working closely with project teams, contractors, suppliers (OFCI/CFCI), and clients to coordinate commissioning efforts and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensuring Compliance: Making sure all work meets building regulations, health and safety standards, and any project-specific requirements.
- Maintaining Records: Keeping detailed, accurate documentation – from test results to compliance sign-offs – to ensure traceability and transparency.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Supporting the development of junior staff, sharing knowledge, and helping to build expertise within the team.
- Improving How We Work: Identifying where processes can be made more efficient or effective, and helping to drive improvements across the commissioning function.
Specific Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or Construction Management (or equivalent experience).
- Significant hands-on experience in MEP commissioning, with a strong track record in a leadership or senior role.
- In-depth knowledge of building services, construction methods, and industry regulations.
- Strong organisational and communication skills – able to manage teams and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
- Confident using relevant digital tools such as BIM and Revit to support planning and coordination.
